George W. Hicks, PE, is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan (1977). Mr. Hicks is a Fellow of the American Board of Forensic Engineering & Technology. He is also an ACTAR Certified Traffic Accident Reconstructionist. His engineering experience has been in the automotive and mechanical engineering fields since 1976. He currently is the Principal Consultant and owner of Ingenium Engineering Services, founded 1990, as an engineering consulting firm (Petersburg, MI). Research of failures and analysis of mechanical functions have been conducted on vehicles, machinery & equipment. Numerous motor vehicle testing & demonstrations have been conducted. Crash testing has followed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) procedures or duplicated actual incidents. Motor vehicle accident reconstruction utilizes computer analysis as required. Fire investigations have been conducted on vehicles, equipment and trailers.

Mr. Hicks became involved with conducting after check inspections of modified rehabilitation vehicles (a.k.a. handicapped vans) for the disabled in 1987. Engineering after checks and/or analysis of problems with disabled rehabilitation vehicle modifications (dropped floors) and handicapped adaptive devices (i.e hand controls, high tech driving devices, etc.) have been performed in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana & Pennsylvania. Mr. Hicks has investigated and inspected a number of modified vehicles and rehabilitation equipment (i.e. wheelchair lifts & wheelchairs) that have been involved in accidents or vehicle fires.

He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Michigan Association of Traffic Accident Investigators (MATAI), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Mr. Hicks is also affiliated with the Association of Driver Educators for the Disabled (ADED) and the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA). Mr. Hicks has published or presented the following papers (articles); “Modified Vehicle Crash Performance” (MATAI Conference, East Lansing, MI, October 2006), “Michigan Helmet Law” (Reference Points, July 2005), "Anatomy of an Instrumented Generic Quadriplegic Evaluation Van" (SAE paper #932880), "Quality, Why Have It, What Is It & How To Achieve It" (Midwest Conference of ADED in Cleveland, Ohio, May 1992), "Safety Standards & the Rehabilitation Vehicle" (Detroit Legal News, June 1991).
